james is a big fan of hats, and when i finished knitting my brown stripey hat, he immediately wanted it. instead, i made him another one (except different).
the stripes on this red and black version follow the fibonacci sequence. the hat ended up with earflaps because by the time i finished the 21 stripe, the hat was too short, but another 34 around the whole diameter would have made it too long.
for this hat, i used a couple of balls of “pure gold” double knitting courtelle (acrylic) which i bought from the warehouse. it wasn’t the nicest to knit with (quite splitty) but it looks okay and is a different texture to most of the acrylics i’ve knit with. more cotton-like and less wool-like, maybe. i don’t think i’ll buy more, but i have enough to make a couple more hats, or something.
